The maximum possible penalty is usually a year in jail, $1000 in fines plus court costs. (Not everyone gets the maximum). A conviction also may be a new suspension of your license. In many of these cases, a person will have defenses, or things they can do, that may lessen the penalty, prevent a new suspension and avoid jail. You have probably hurt yourself by going this long without a lawyer and should retain counsel so you receive a proper defense. If you are indigent and ask, the court can appoint counsel.
