Legal Question in Traffic Law in Georgia

I recently got 2 tickets: one for super speeding (97 on a 70) and reckless driving. This is my first time ever being pulled over or arrested for anything. I was followed by an off duty cop who was in his regular car and he called the county cops on me who checked me at 97 but the off duty cop said I was going over 100 and weaving through lanes. I was told by the people working at the police station that if I paid the fine which was $1848, I would not have to go to court so I did but I find out later I still need to go. I've already paid the fine which means I say Im guilty. I only did that bc they said I would not have to go to court bc I am leaving the country for 2-3 months but now of course I have to come back. What should I do and what do you think the punishment will be? Jail time and license suspension? Thank You! (I got the ticket in Darien, Georgia)

I've been a lawyer almost exactly 24 years. When I got a super speeder ticket 3-4 years ago, the first thing I did was hire a good traffic lawyer. The should tell you exactly what you should do -- get a good traffic lawyer in the county in which you received the ticket. You should have done it immediately, and you have already harmed your case. This will cost you far, far more in insurance rates for several years and you still face additional penalties.
