Legal Question in Traffic Law in Georgia

Is running a yellow light a crime?

My son went straight through a yellow light, an oncoming car turning left also went through the yellow light and hit him. My son got a ticket for running a yellow light & has to appear in court to decide who was at fault in the wreck. We can't find where running a yellow light is an offense. It was GA code 40-6-20 which states you have to obey a circular red or red arrow. Can he be charged partially at fault for the wreck? Thanks

Re: Yellow light

Entering an intersection on a yellow light is not a crime. It is likely the other driver will testify that the light was red and not yellow. If the other driver admits the light was yellow when your son entered the intersection then he should not be found responsible. Additionally, the other driver is at fault and your son should recover from that driver's insurance company.
