Legal Question in Traffic Law in Georgia

Hi, Yesterday my wife had an accident. While my wife was driving the car in our neighborhood, a six year old child suddenly came from the side walk to in front of the car on his scooty and was hit. 911 was called and the child was taken to hospital where he is being treated for a broken limb and the doctors are saying that there is no major injury other than the broken limb. The police who came at the scene gave my wife a ticket with a court date appearance on Sep 15th.

The child was playing on the road unattended and the spot where this accident happened has a slope where his scooty suddenly picked the speed and his scooty came from the side walk to the road in front of the car. My wife was not speeding at that time. She says that her speed was about 25-30 mph at that time. Now we are very concerned about what can be possible consequences of this. One person who is claiming to be an eye witness is making statements which are contrary to the facts. For example, initially he said, my wife was driving at 60-70 speed which the cop said, it's not possible on this curved road. Then he made the statement to police that the car was very fast which is not true.

1. Can someone please tell me what are the consequences now and what do we need to do ?

2. What should we expect on the court date of Sep 15. ? Do we need to hire a lawyer now ?

3. Can the judge impose a fine, cancel my wife's license ? IS there a possibility for my wife to face imprisonment ?

4. Can the parents of the child file a lawsuit against us ? What can be the consequences of such a lawsuit ?

I will really appreciate any help on this as both me and my wife are in a very difficult situation emotionally as well as concerned about the possible legal implications of this accident.

Thank You

Posting one side of the story on the internet is not a good idea, and won't do any good as no one here decides the issue. You need to contact your insurance agent, get a good lawyer for the ticket or charges, and stop posting about it.
