Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia

Funeral Expenses

I have lived with and taken care of my 93 year old mother for 7 years. Her health is not good. She has not made funeral arrangements. Her home has been willed to me. She has a savings account of $10,000, about $20,000 equity in the home and about $20,000 in credit card debt. Can I use any of the $10,000 in savings to pay for funeral expenses before probate, as I don't think the funeral home will let me charge her funeral since I am not employed. No chance of getting money from other siblings. She has no life insurance policy. I am Executrix of her will.

Re: Funeral Expenses

If you are concerned about spending the funds as Executrix it may be a good idea to consider prepaid funeral arrangements, which sometimes result in savings over after after death planning. Just make sure that you are dealing with providers that are financially sound.
