Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia

How long should distribution of estate take?

My grandmother died 1 year and 1 month ago. Shortly after her death I received a letter from a lawyer stating I was named in the will to receive a portion of the estate. I have not heard anything since then. Is there a time limit on distributing her estate to the hiers? What should I do next?

The first thing you should do is go to the probate court in the county in which your grandmother was a resident at the time of her death. Take a look at the will, which should have been filed for probate. Then, contact the attorney who contacted you. If you still have questions, consult with a local attorney.
