Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Hawaii

Night club discrimination

I frequently visit a night club and am a good customer there. A bouncer at the club refused to let me in one night even after I showed him proof of age and had confirmation by a club employee of my identification. I was constantly harassed that night by the bouncer even after he let me in as an over twenty one customer. Can the bouncer discriminate against me in that way?

Re: Night club discrimination

Dear Sir: I am not sure if what you described was "age discrimination" as you don't state what type of harrassment you suffered from the bouncer. Certainly you may file a complaint with the management. It is possible you have some other type of claim. At this point I would write the manager with specific details of how you were harrassed and/or embarrassed. Since you are on Oahu, I suggest you contact the Hawaii Civil Rights Commission, 830 Punchbowl Street, Room 411 Honolulu, HI 96813

Phone: 586-8636 Fax(808) 586-8655 . They can also be reached at the Hawaii State Government page at www.hawaii.gov/hcrc/index.html.
