Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

Extortion for civil settlement

I was sued in civil court for breech of contract and fraud. Plaintiff voluntarily withdrew the suit, after I accused him of having no evidence to make such claims.

He then wrote a letter to the FBI. He sent me a copy, told me I'll go to jail unless I pay him a settlement. Also threatened my mom legally, not sure why.

His attorney continued to harass my attorney. Never was any real evidence presented, acknowledged, or mentioned. He is a broken record -- ''pay me! pay me! I have no evidence and no case, but pay me anyways!''

It seems like a scare tactic, which isn't working.

He is threatening to refile, again, without any evidence. All he has are a few pieces of paperwork, which if distorted, could become evidence in ANY lawsuit. Basically, he has nothing, but he won't acknowledge it.

I am not concerned about winning the suit if he re-files. However, in the meantime, my legal bills are piling up.

My attorney says the original complaint was so frivolous, that if they decided to pursue it, the attorney may get sanctioned or disbarred.

My question is, could I countersue for attorney fees? I feel like this will continue to drag on, and the guy plans to just keep bugging me until I pay him. Is there anything I can do

You should discuss this with your attorney since he has knowledge of the actual facts.
