Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois

falsely accused

I was sued for sexual harassment. Along with my suit the company I work for was sued for wrongful termination and the owner was sued. In all there were 10 charges. The company settled all the suits for 20000 and now I have to pay them back the whole 20000 since the company claims that it was my initial sexual harassment claim. (my family is the owners of the company) The suit filed against me was false. She sent me over 150 text messages in 3 days, including naked pictures. She even told the owners that I did not harass her. I know my case would have been won. I know that defamation suits are costly and rarely ever see the courts. What should I do? In the settlement it does not state that I cannot take action.

Re: falsely accused

Well there are two pieces to this.

First of all, why are you liable in the first place to pay? Is there a written employment contract that explains who indemnifies who in such a case?

Second of all, did you agree to the settlement? If you did not sign and you are responsible for paying settlements, I doubt the agreement is binding on you.
