Legal Question in Construction Law in Illinois

paid in advance unlicensed contractor

Hired a contractor working under a ficticious corporation name and no licanse. Paid $8,000 in advance for work totaling $22,000. Did not do the work. Reported the case to consumer protection agencies, state attorney's office but he never responded to any letters sent to him. I know he is in town and have an address can I file charges/file suit?

Re: paid in advance unlicensed contractor

Hello. In my opinion you can file a lawsuit

against this unlicensed contractor. However, I

suggests that you act quickly. Remember, there

is always the possibility that when you get a

judgment against him he could file bankruptcy.

There are some other issues to be considered

here as well. Will be happy to answer any

additional questions that you might have.
