Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Can someone PLEASE tell me what I can do about Capital One credit card Co.? I cancelled my card last Dec. 2009. I have made more then the minimum payment every Month since. Now for the past 3 Months I have had to babysit this card on a daily basis. I get one Internet co. after another trying to charge to this card. I have not used the card and it has not been out of my wallet except for the countless times I have called, and begged and pleaded with Capital One to STOP allowing charges on this card. Every time they tell me that they have restricted the card and no further charges will appear on the card. Yesterday after I spent yet another hour on the phone with these people, and was assured yet again that the card was restricted and there will be no further charges I check on-line today and there is another charge. I call yet again and they want my entire SS# and told him no way in hell was I giving him my SS# because its obviously someone within Capital One that is using my card #. He tells me that he cannot help me, so I hung up. What do I have to do to stop these people from trying to rip me off on a daily basis? I do not have the time to babysit this card, and call every time, then fill out a 3 page form for each attempted charge. the last time I recieved 6- 3 page forms to fill out or they were going to allow the charges. I am absolutely livid!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou,

Dean

2 things come to mind. First, send them a certified letter to the proper address indicated on your card agreement and/or card. Call them and get the address if you can't locate it otherwise. Second CLOSE the account. Don't merely say no more charges, close the account. Do that in the letter. Do it on phone. Do it by email. Do it by fax.

Then, if you get a charge, call the Attorney General's office and report them.
