Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Credit card dispute leads businuss to threaten lien on house

My husband and I purchased a shed kit from a local hardware store. When the kit was delivered, parts of the kit were of very poor quality as well as being the wrong size (too short). We opened up a dispute with our credit card since the business did not want to refund any $ for the substandard product.

Now, the company is threatening to call their lawyers to get a lien put against our house. Can they do this? Can this affect our credit rating? We just received and returned the dispute from the credit card company yesterday.

Unless there is something missing here, no, they can't put a lien against your house at this point. Of course without reviewing all relevant information, and discussing the matter with you thoroughly, I can't really give you a definitive answer.
