what is an default judgement and is legal to obtain one if you were not notified, also possible solutions

A default judgment is what occurs when a plaintiff sues a defendant and the defendant does nothing, i.e., the defendant does not answer the complaint or otherwise "appear" in the action. Typically, depending on the jurisdiction, notice of both the filing of the lawsuit (the service of the summons and complaint) and notice of the motion for a default judgment is required. There are ways by which one can vacate such a judgment under the appropriate circumstances.
