Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

My "friend" wrote me a check for cash because his bank was closed. The check came back NSF. He has not paid me back and it has been 30 days. What can I do to collect the money?

Go to the police and charge him with a crime. Or sue him or her.

1. Ask him. There may be a very good reason he has not been able to pay you back. There might not.

2. Decide if you want to remain friends

3. If yes, forget it. Whenever I "loan" money to family or friends, I assume it is going to be a gift. If I am not in a position to make such a gift, no "loan" will be made. If I do get the money back, I look at it as a gift to me.

4. If no, file suit or contact the county attorney.
