A private investigator messaged me on facebook regarding a payment that was made with my name attached. They informed me that legal and criminal action can be filed is this possible especially when I don't know how this person got my name

Never trust a facebook message. If someone has a claim against you, you will get a letter in the mail. They are phishing for information from you.

This sounds more like someone trying to get your personal information. A legitimate debt collector will not send you a message on facebook and threaten criminal action. Only the government can charge you with a crime, and they will not send you a message on facebook.
