Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

I currently have wage garnishments taken out of my paychecks due to unpaid student loans. I have been keeping track of how much I've paid through my paystubs. I called the place taking out the garnishments to see the balance and they gave me an amount much higher than I expected. I was told this was due to interest that has been added. Am I supposed to be paying this added interest or the amount that was given to me by the judge?
