Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

About three years ago I cosigned for a car with an ex girlfriend. In April of this year that car was repossessed. During the time of being on the car I didn't have possession of it at any time. There is still an outstanding balance on the car. Right now the loan company is coming after me. I was wondering what they can do to me? I am a student and don't have any money to pay for it.

when you signed the loan for the car, along with your ex-girlfriend, you agreed to be responsible for the debt. since you did that and the debt has not been paid as you agreed, you are in breach of the contract and can be sued for the breach. your status as a student and financial status has nothing to do with your obligation under the contract.
