Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

child pornography discovered on computer

Dear sir/madam,

I have a question about the law about child pornography. I'm asking for a friend that I'm housing that has been chased from his home by his wife. The wife and my friend have had years of marital difficulties. Recently she has discovered child pornography on the family computer. My friend has admitted to me that he did 8 months ago download some free images that took 4 hours to download (each image) on his slow computer. He said when he saw the images he was so appalled and disgusted that he immediately deleted them or so he thought.

He was threatened by his wife that she would go to the police if he didn't leave the house immediately (they have 2 teenagers. He's been staying with us for 2 months and he's been seeing counselors from his church. The wife has complete access to his salary which is a direct deposit from his work. If he changes the bank account she will go to the police. If he contacts the children or tries to directly contact her, she also will contact the police and have him arrested. What can he do? What would happen if he turned himself in to police?

Thanks,

Paul

Re: child pornography discovered on computer

Your question is much too complicated to be addressed via an internet posting. I recommend that your friend personally discuss his situation with a criminal defense lawyer.
