Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

? on Extension of plenary Order of Protection

I had a Order of Protection served on me 2 years ago it will be up soon. But my ex boyfriend just served me a motion to extend the order. I dont know what to do I have not broken the order obvioulsly or I would be in jail. Can I fight this? Should I get a lawyer I feel that now I am being harassed, this is a embarassing thing to have on my record. There is no reason at all for me to contact him now that I am receiving the child support. I just want him out of my life too. I have court on Tuesday can I ask the judge for a continuance in order to obtain legal counsel? Thanks in advance.

Jackie

Yes, you can ask the Court for a continuance, and you will probably get it. Or, you could insist upon a trial and see if there is enough evidence presented to justify the Court extending the Order. Good luck!

You would be foolish to go into court without a lawyer. Please call for a free consultation.
