Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Home Burglary

Our air conditioner was stolen out of our window. We saw it in our neighbors window and called police. There were no witnesses to the theft, but our air conditioner has identifying dents on the back, scratches on the bottom, and we also have the serial numbers and proof of purchases. The police verified all the markings are there. The neighbors will not let the police in the house, so they tried to get a search warrant, believing it is ours from the markings. However, at the last minute his landlord, the owner of the property, came out and said he remembers the guy buying a new whirlpool air conditioner, so the judge won't grant a search warrant and the police have dropped the whole thing. Is there anything else we can do?

Re: Home Burglary

Hello. You can file a

civil lawsuit against your

neigbor and possibly the

landlord, but I suggests you

get a lawyer to represent

you.
