Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

I live in california and recently attained my livescan report. It shows a bunch of charges from ONE incident that happened in chicago when i was 17. That one incident got me arrested with about 4 misdemeanor charges but I was only convicted of one. So, my question is 1.Why is my juvenile record not sealed and 2.I thought only convictions were what stayed on your record. Im worried this will be an issue now that I recently finished school and am entering the career job market. Especially since the multiple arrest charges make it seem, at first glance, that I have a "rap sheet" though I really dont. Please help point me in the right direction. Ive worked WAY too hard to let 1 bad teenaged day (8years ago) ruin my future. Thank you in advance, any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, in Illinois at 17 you are an adult in the criminal justice system. So, you don't have a juvenile record. As to the rest, it would be easier to know the sentence you received. If you received a sentence of supervision you are eligible to expunge your record unless it was a DUI. Nothing leaves your record unless you expunge it. All arrests show up as well as convictions. If you have one conviction on your record you cannot expunge ANYTHING. (Supervision is not a conviction under Illinois law.) If you have a conviction, such as conditional discharge or probation, you may still be able to seal your record. That's different than expunging the record. When expunged, your record is gone forever. When sealed, only the general public, like prospective employers, cannot see your record. The police and government still can. Since you live in California please call me at (708) 263-8212 to get this done.

You can expunge convictions for certain felonies--if it involves drugs and prostitution. If you have any other questions, I can be reached at 312-372-5600.
