Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

thift--psychological evaluation

What would you sugguest for a 24 year old in Illinois jail for shop lifting. Previous arrest have been for selling drugs--he was set up by a 'friend.' He is a nice kid, and says he has no idea why he makes the choices. When a student, he had a learning disability and the school provided a teaching aid. His family believes something may be amiss in his brain and he needs psychological evaluation. Any suggestions?

Depends on what county he is in. I suggest you get him an attorney who knows what programs are available and ask the attorney to push for some sort of job training or mental health assessment. Unfortunately, your options are limitted by the fact that this is not a first offense and the fact that the boy is over 18. Nonetheless, a good attorney should be able to help.

Good luck.
