Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Illinois

Lawsuit Settlement Check

I was involved in a lawsuit against a company I used to work for and received a settlement check....I was informed that my previous company would take taxes otu of the check..however they took over 40% from the check and do not give any description whatsoever regarding what all/any of the deductions were for....is this normal and what should I do to find out what the deduction were for? they keep giving me the run around and transfering me saying that they dont even know who I should talk to about it.

Re: Lawsuit Settlement Check

Hello. You should know what those deductions

from the settlement are for. If the matter was

properly settled, the settlement order should

have specified that the court would retain juris-

diction over any issues that might arise in

connection with the settlement You should not

try to represent yourself on this issue and the

matter needs to be brought back to court, after

an attorney of your choice analyzes the matter.

This is very important. My concern is that your

former employer could say that he had to make

further deductions, without actually doing so. In

other words, it could be the former employer's

way of settling your case for less than the

actual amount by fabricating a story about the

need to withhold certain amounts of money. You

need to act on this immediately. I will be happy

to answer any additional questions that you may

have.
