Legal Question in DUI Law in Illinois

I was pulled over because I didn't have a seat-belt on, the guy then smelled cannabis on my breathe and asked me to step out the car. He had asked if I had smoked any cannabis in the last 24 hours, I told him yes. I failed the visual perception test he gave me and I was convicted of a DUI misdemeanor. The cop then searched through my car, he didn't find anything in the vehicle, I didn't get drug possession. I have a court date in a month, October 25th... I don't need any lectures on how I was irresponsible, I know this, and I finally got a reality check. I'm also 17 years of age, how can I fix my life? .. What can I do to improve.. ? Is there any way this can be off my record? This happened September 23, 2012.

You need to hire the best criminal defense attorney you can afford. It is very possible that you will be able to avoid a conviction. Hopefully, you will not be pulled over again. But, if you are ever confronted by a police officer and questioned when you are not free to leave, you have the Constitutional right to decline to answer questions or make statements. Do so, and do not let the officer talk you out of it. I have handled many cases such as yours over the last thirty-four years. You may contact me if you do not already have an attorney.
