Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Child Support, Higher Earnings

I got divorced a few years ago. After the divorce I went to school and because of that I will be making twice as much money next week with a new job. Is it possible to freeze child support to my previous earnings amount? My reasoning behind this is that I started improving my education and earning potential after the divorce. Therefore the requirements of the custodial parent have not changed and nothing they have done has led to this increase in earnings.

No, you cannot freeze your child support. The state has decided that people would pay 20% of their net income to provide for their children. If you make more, the child benefits more. Just like it would under a conventional marriage.
