Granddaughter having baby in March 2017. The baby dad doesn't want anything to do with her or baby. He says if he signs away his parental rights he won't have to pay child support. She believes this is true. Decatur Illinois

It is a popular misconception that a man can simply sign away his parental rights and not have to pay any support. The only was to legally and effectively surrender and not have to pay support is for the baby to be adopted. If your granddaughter wants child support , she has the right to seek that support through a court, no matter what he says. But with that comes the right to visit with the child or to seek possession of the child.
