Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

If it is written in the divorce that one party receives a piece of property in the divorce once the party in possession dies and the party with possession decides to buy the other party out, can a written letter releasing the party of their obligation be satisfied by a letter written, signed, witnessed and notarized that they are giving up all rights to the property be legal and binding.
