Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Unable to get my laptop back from repair

I have a laptop that I gave to a ''friend of a friend'' at work for repair and three months later I have yet to see it. He works for a company that sells and services PC's. I have called him, called the company whom he works for to do the repair. He said he sent it UPS a few weeks ago but has not called me back to check the tracking # or to update me on the status. I did not make a written contract. It was not connecting to the internet and there was a simple defect that needed to be repaired. Is there any other steps to take? Can I even take this person to court because I dd not get a written contract. Another co-worker also gave him a back-up drive for servicing and she is in the same situation as I am. We gave our products to service three months ago when he stopped by the office. I did not pay any money and have not seen him since. If you have any suggestions I would be most grateful. I heard of you from Judge Greg Mathis' website. Thank you for your time.

Re: Unable to get my laptop back from repair

Sounds like a scam to me. I would try calling the police and telling them what happened. If you can find this "friend of a friend" then you can serve him with a lawsuit and hopefully recover your computer. If he has sold the computer, chances are that you will have to settle for money.

Please feel free to call if you have any questions.
