Legal Question in Immigration Law in Illinois

I am a US citizen and am planning to petition my spouse, (we recently got married). He entered the country legally many, many years ago and never left. He still has his I-94. But since then, he has worked as "self employed", not employed by anybody, not as an employee of anybody, all on his own, construction work and handy work. Now when I fill out certain forms, they ask for his occupation and work history. What should I say to not be a problem ? What would I lawyer do in this instance ?

Thanks,

Mike

Unauthorized employment is not a bar to adjustment if you are married to a U.S, citizen & have a lawful entry. However, if he did not pay taxes, that could raise a separate issue with the IRS.

I cannot advise you as to whether or not to hire an Immigration Attorney to represent you. Some people file on their own. Some people totally mess it up & others do fine.
