Legal Question in Immigration Law in Illinois

Hello, I need to know how long it would take to get a green card if my daughter (American citizen ) has filled a petition for me. Is it true that I should stay in the USA even if I'm here on a visa, as long as I get the green card? How long is the process?

The processing times depend on if you are adjusting status or consular processing. If adjusting status, it could take as little as 90 days from time of filing to interview (if any). For consular processing, it could take up to one year.

As long as you entered lawfully, if you are an "immediate relative" of a U.S. citizen child over the age of 21, you can adjust status.
