Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Illinois

I received a summons, called the court that was on the summons (us district court, Chicago, IL) to inquire as to what to do and was told that they couldn't help me, but that I should retain an attorney. I contacted a couple of attorneys in my home state (Florida) and was told that I needed a Chicago attorney. I contacted one, spoke to them, then found out that they could not represent me (conflict of interest). Now i'm late responding to the summons. I spoke to the court and was told that I need to file a "Motion for Extension", but that it must be mailed. Can I be arrested since the deadline has passed?

If this is a civil case, you should not be arrested for failing to appear or answer. However, a default judgment could be entered against you which could make you liable for whatever is claimed in the underlying case. Best bet is to find an attorney to help you ASAP.

Good Luck.
