Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Is you employer allowed to take disciplinary action against you when you have an accident. Either because of the accident or that you reported it not on time. The company that I work for writes people up in many cases up to a point where people loose their jobs. If yes that doesn't that hold back employees from reporting their injures because they don't want to lose their jobs and why should they be blamed for an accident.
