Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Can I be asked for money after being evicted in a court ruling?

My first question was:

I was contacted this afternoon by my current (soon to be former) landlord. Last week, the courts ruled that I must vacate the premesis by the 18th of December. The judge also said that they could not ask for any money (that section of the court document had to be crossed out by the plantiff's attorney). Can the landlord still ask for money? Why would the landlord try and contact me? This is in Chicago, Illinois.

More info:

It was a first appearance: I had planned to ask for a 6 person jury. The (very helpful) judge said it would be in my interest not to do this, as I could end up owing money if the jury ruled against me. She said that, because of the circumstances of the case, the plantiff could not ask for a money settlement, and I would have until the 18th to move. The money settlement section was crossed out on the settlement, and I was told I did not have to pay. Given this information, can the landlord still ask for money? Do I have to call her back (I still have over a week left before she can kick me out).

Thank you again for your help.

Hello. It appears as if the landlord is trying to reach some type of a settlement with you, but you certainly are not obligated to call her back. It might be best to plan on moving out since there will be no money judgment against you. Will be happy to answer any additional questions you may have.

The landlord may be asking you for money in exchange for letting you stay. If you have some money to offer, can start paying rent again, and want to stay, then talking will not hurt.

You do not have to call her back, but if you are not out by the date on the Court Order, the landlord can have the Sheriffs come and evict you pretty much immediately.
