Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Breaking a lease

I am going to have to break my lease, and wondered what type of legal action can be taken against me if I do so. Can I be held liable for the rent for the rest of the lease time?

Re: Breaking a lease

That's pretty much the worst of it. Your landlord is supposed to try to get someone who can take over the rest of the lease (its called a duty to mitigate) and you can do the same. But if nobody wants your apartment, you may be held liable for the rent and for any late fees provided in your lease.
