Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

My landlord lost a rent check of mine one year and four months ago, now he is asking me for a new check, do I have to pay him?

Tried to set up a repayment plan with him, want's it all now.

If you owed it, yes. And your monthly statements should have showed you still had the money. Based on your limited facts it doesn't sound like there is a statute of limitations issue, so if it's worth it for him to sue, he could, and you couldn't prove you paid because the check never cleared your account. He should ok a payment plan since going any other route would just cost more time and expense.
