Based on your zip code, you live in Bensenville. I do not believe that the town has a "landlord-tenant ordinance" like Chicago's, but you can check w/ the Building Department. It will also depend on the # of units in the apartment.building - as long as there are 5 or more Illinois has a statute on the subject (765 ILCS 710/1). If 4 or LESS, your lease will control. If the landlord is not complying with any of these, you will have to sue but if you do and there are 5 or more units, you may be entitled to 2x the amount as punishment against the landlord.
