Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

i had a car accident maybe 5 years ago with another driver. in the police report the the person admitted fault and related that she failed to stop at the stop sign. recently i was checking my credit report and came across this matter. i was never notified by the insurance co nor the credit collection agency. i'm now said to owe 5000 dollars for this matter that was clearly not my fault. what action can i take or what can i do

While I cannot be sure without more research, It would appear that a default judgment was entered against you. That is, you were sued and brought to court.
