Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

I was involved in an auto accident. Right now it's he said, she said. Four vehicles were involved, with myself getting the full force of the accident. When I was released from the hospital & went to the police station, I was made to fill out a witness inquiry. I stated I was a victim, not a witness. I called one of the other parties involved, and they said they did not have to fill out this form.

Right now this is in the hands of the insurance company. This accident occurred less than a week ago. My question is, do you think I need to retain a lawyer, or wait to see the final determination.

Right now it feels as if the police dept. is protecting the other person, and trying to use me as a scapegoat.

thank you.

The police doesn't care who wins or loses. If you were injured and/or if there is property damage, you need to make sure that a proper police report is filed. You insurance company will require it and the law requires it. So I don't understand this business about being a witness--Unless a police report has already been filed and completed and you are doing it after the official report has been prepared, because there can only be one police report and once it is done then it won't be changed.

If you were not at fault, and you were injured, you would be better off getting an attorney. Insurance industry's own internal data shows that a person will be compensated better even if they have to pay atty fees--without an attorney you stand no chance of getting fair compensation for your loss. At this point, no one is on your side and unless you know how to deal with the insurance adjusters' shenanigans, you would do yourself a favor by arming your self with attorney.

I hope this helps-
