Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

How do I establish residency in a home I have been living in for 15 months. I have no where to go with no money to go and several animals that need to be cared for. I cannot leave this home with no where to go, I want to make sure the employer that has been allowing me to live there cannot just evict me without giving me the opportunity to find other adequate living arrangements.

If you have possession of the property, the owner would have to follow proper notice procedures to get you out, which likely involves 30 days provided you are not in default. Then, if you do not vacate the property when the time comes, the owner must go through proper court proceedings before you can be physically evicted. Usually, that would mean a couple weeks to get a court date, followed by the judge giving you a week or two to move.

Have you discussed expectations with the owner? Although I suppose it could backfire, perhaps you would find yourself reassured.
