Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I was evited from my place bc I broke the terms of my lease (rented rooms to roomates to help pay the expenses). The landlord gave me 15 days to move out without any warning or notice (they did not go to court, but did contact an attorney they said). I got out in the 15 day requirement. Now, they want me to pay $6,000 in damanges and back rent (rent 1,000). While I did not cause the damages, I have accepted responsibility as they were cause by ppl I allowed to live in the home without permission, but they are demanding $2000/mo. I simply cannot afford that amount. I am staying with friends because I didn't even have time to find a place to live. I have offered to pay them $1000/mo, and I have researched the garnishment laws and they'd get about $700/mo if they take me to court. They are not willing to accept the $1,000/mo and are threatening legal action. Can they make me pay $2000/mo? I can't live if I have to pay that much every month. I dont know what to do.
