If my father in law is placed in a nursing home how much of their assets can my mother in law retain, before requesting help from illinois meicaid? they have property as well as their family home, but no savings

Hello. This is a very complicated area of the law and you should sit down with an attorney face to face and discuss with him or her the extent to which a lien can be placed on real property in your dad's name for the cost of his nursing home care. Dealing with medicaid is a whole different issue. Will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail with more specifics from you.
