Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I'm a homeowner and my neighbor, who is an absentee owner that rents, has several very large trees that over hang well into my yard and drops berries, etc. onto my property. My question...... Can I ask the owner if they would trim back their trees to a manageable level? There is also a branch that is just about covering my chimney. I do burn quite a bit of wood during the winter and with the new growth this season, I have a real concern that I will start the tree on fire during the winter. Any advice? Thanks.

You certainly can ask your neighbor to have them trimmed. You also can have them trimmed as long as you don't kill them and your neighbor may be willing to reimburse you without a lawsuit.
