Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Property damaged after lanlord notified of electrical problem

We signed a one year lease in April. Several appliances have broken that the landlord has had repaired and each time he has been notified that the house has an electrical problem causing power surges and he needs to have it checked. He even witnessed a power surge on one occasion. The electric went out completely damaging every appliance and tv in our home. The power company did find bad wiring on their lines. When I complained to the landlord about him having prior knowlege and not acting he told me to pack my things and move out in 15 days. I feel threatened. Who's responsible for the damage?
