Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Illinois

Business Lunch

I am curious as to what the proper next step might be if I was at a business lunch with a supervisor and a sexual innuendo was made, along with a friendly ''wink.'' Nothing was said about money or promotion or even sex, to be quite frank, but the innuendo was there. Should I speak directly to him or can I go beyond that if I feel more comfortable?

Re: Business Lunch

The next step depends on how comfortable you feel about approaching your supervisor. If you feel like he/she may not react well to your concern, you may want to present the situation to someone else such as a human resource representative. If you do decide to confront your supervisor and he continues to make inappropiate comments or he retaliates against you, contact someone above your supervisor immediately. However, to answer your question you may do both. If you have any questions or would like to speak to me about the exact situation, I would be more than happy to discuss it with you.
