Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Illinois

Being touched in a bar

My wife asked me this and I don't know the answer. She was once at a bar and a man grabbed her butt and then made an obscene gesture with his tongue. Is that sexual harrasment, or is harrassment only in a work place. What is the crime if someone touches you, like on the butt, without your consent?

Re: Being touched in a bar

What you are describing could be charged as a battery which would be criminal charges and she would have to go to the police station or contact that county's state's attorney's office. Sexual harassment under Title VII only covers harassment at work or by a co-worker, supervisor, etc. I would suggest contacting the police if she wants to press charges against the individual.
