Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

IF executor and beneficiary inherit equal shares of the possessions in home, but can't seem to agree on items, can one party ask lawyer if items can be appraised ? Could beneficiary ask for the monetary value of items the other party wants ? How can this be done fairly?
