Legal Question in Criminal Law in India

Is there any time limit to file a F.I.R.?

15 years back movable properties of our mother have been dishonestly taken away by one of our brothers. Can any one of the remaining brothers or sisters file F.I.R. against the offender?

Law does not provide limitation for the registration of FIR. It can be got registered at any time, but its late registration creates suspect and lowers its weight. Goods lent can be recovered through civil litigation, if it is not time barred.

It may possibly be only a civil case. However, if a criminal case can be made out, any of the affected parties may make a complaint to the police.
