Legal Question in Environmental Law in India

I am a BE student. Tress are being cut in our colony at a very high rate. When we were in junior classes, we were taught that we should first plant 100 saplings and then cut 1 tree, does a law exists for the same, is it not a offence?

Unauthorized cutting of trees is an offece. However, in this case, you are not aware about the factual situation. You should first try to collect information from the concerned authorities. Or else, you may make a written complaint to the Municipal Authorities of the area with copies to the Environment & Forest departments.
