Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in India

A friend of mine maintained a private facebook page where he wrote some comments that were deemed offensive by a section of the society. He had no specific motive or intention to target any specific individual or any material gain from those writings. His writings did not have any names of individuals, but general references to a broad social group. This information was leaked by some individuals, who took offense and sought to press with IP 509 charges against my friend. What is my friend's best recourse to acquit himself? In my opinion, he was voicing his personal opinions, there by exercising his right free expression, about that social group without attacking any individual.

Freedom of Speech comes with limitation - liability. If the statements fall within the limitations prescribed he will not be held guilty. You need to consult a local lawyer for this.
