What happens to bills, credit cards and medical when one spouse dies

A surviving spouse is not liable for a deceased's spouse's debts generally, and assuming that the surviving spouse's name wasn't on those bills, credit cards or medical bills. The creditors though do have a claim against any assets that the decedent left which are in his/her name alone.
